Holiday Weight Gain.

Can you remember those holidays when you stuffed down too many buttery rolls or mashed potatoes? When the smell from desserts hit the room, how did you react? Did you ever feel tempted to indulge in these foods:

1. apple pie.

2. plates full of cookies.

3. pound cake.

4. meatballs.

5. Cheese.

6. fried chicken.

7. and so forth.

If not careful, all these weight gain foods will pack on the pounds. Toss in some ice cream… and over time you just might blow up. On top of that, high weight gain foods that are not so healthy can be a long-term problem if we make it a habit.

Health risk factors that can lead to:

1. certain types of cancer.

2. diabetes.

3. high risk in high blood pressure.

4. high risk in heart disease.

5. to name a few.

If your goal is to add weight, you want healthy weight gain foods in your diet. Foods that contain good fats such as:

1. Avocado.

2. Olive oil.

3. Nuts.

4. and so forth.

3 Reasons for Holiday Weight Gain.

1. Hibernation. – Although we are not bears, when the sun goes down, we feel the need to get “in” and skip that walk on the trail.  This slows down of activities reduces the amount of calories burned and could contribute to weight gain especially when you add office parties and ballgame food.

2. Food at every corner. – From the neighbor’s house to the office, from the hospital to the school, from the church to the boss’ house, it’s parties galore. It’s that time of year when those pounds seem to add up. Most of the time, the foods you eat are

a. high in fat.

b. high in calories.

c. low in nutrition.

3. We let it All Go. – We are just days away from Thanksgiving and, from a business standpoint, in the last quarter of the year. Many activities slow down and plans for the New Year begin. The business behaviors transfer into personal life with holiday vacations, parties and the like. With that attitude it is as if the preverbal hair is let down, which explains why many resolutions start in January.
