Turkey Dinner Ideas

Healthy Turkey Dinner Ideas.

A Turkey Dinner on Turkey Day is always lined up with dieting and overeating as many unwanted pounds seem to find us during that time. For some reason, turkey is most talked about and prepared during this time of year but it can be embraced year round. In addition, you, your friends and family can help improve health by swapping turkey for beef in spaghetti sauce, meatloaf, chili and a variety of other dishes. Can you taste the difference you ask? Not if seasoned properly and believe me your body will thank you.

How To Cook A Turkey Dinner.

A few important points about turkey… make sure you use either a combination of white and dark (dark has more flavor) or all white meat. This will depend on the dish you are preparing but if you use all white meat remember to season it well and know that it does not have much fat in it at all. This is probably why we put so much gravy and salt on the turkey breast at Thanksgiving and as bland as it may be, many companies add salt to preserve the meat so be careful. Overall, turkey is a great substitute for ground beef and is more heart-healthy. I prefer cooking a fresh turkey breast but if you buy a frozen turkey breast, you need to make sure it is fully thawed. I suggest a meat thermometer to make sure it cooks through. Last but not least, don’t forget to remove the giblets and neck!
